Language is vital to the culture of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley. If language is lost then knowledge is lost – knowledge of law, songs, dances and the land. If young people don’t speak their languages, they will lose the knowledge of the old people. Our languages need to be recorded and renewed for the next generation – they must be kept going.
The KLRC is an incorporated Aboriginal organisation supporting the diverse language groups of the Kimberley. The Head Office is in Halls Creek. The organisation supports Early Years Learning, Language in the Curriculum, the development of Communication Strategies and the development of Language Resources.
KLRC Bunuba publications include:
Thangani Bunuba: Bunuba Stories, 1998
Bunuba Yarrangi Thangani: An interactive program for teaching an Indigenous language, (CD), 2000
